The Scouting Report
Though they’re barely a month into the 2015 season, FC Dallas already looks poised for a second straight trip to the playoffs. Through its first five games, the squad sprinted out to a 3–1–1 start. Fourth-year forward Blas Perez has played a key role in the team’s early success, recording three goals and establishing himself as a bigger threat to opposing goalies than a net riddled with bees. In May, Perez and his teammates will defend Toyota Stadium against two imposing rosters. The Robbie Keane–led LA Galaxy invade Dallas on May 9, followed a week later by one of the Eastern Conference’s top teams in the New York Red Bulls.
As one of the original 10 members of the MLS when it began in 1995, FC Dallas has had plenty of time to build a storied history. The club found glory early, winning the US Open Cup in 1997 with a victory over D.C. United; since then, it has qualified a dozen times. The shouted blessings of steadfast supporters echo among the 20,500 seats of Toyota Stadium, especially in grudge matches against their three chief rivals: the Houston Dynamo, the Chicago Fire, and the Columbus Crew.
