Festival Cubano

Festival Cubano has grown from a small grassroots fair to one of the Midwest’s largest Latin celebrations, attracting hundreds of thousands each year. This year’s festival celebrates its 10-year anniversary and features carnival rides and games, food and merchant vendors, and premium hand-rolled cigars on site by Master Cigar Makers. Family-friendly festivities will also include a domino tournament, a vintage classic car show, and music and dance workshop.

• Bad Boy Bill: This House DJ is know for his “fast and loose” style and has been spinning since the age of 14. He’s made a name for himself across the country since winning the DMC’s Battle DJ competition in the late 1980s.
• Lil Suzy: Regarded as one of the top freestyle singers, her club hit “Take Me in Your Arms” charted at No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1992, when she was only 13 years old. Lil Suzy was also the youngest artist ever to win Billboard magazine’s Best New Dance Artist that same year.

Saturday, August 10 Lineup

• Tito Nieves: One of the leading salsa singers of the ’80s and the early ’90s, he is known for his hits such as “El Amor Más Bonito,” “Sonámbulo,” and the English-salsa hit, “I Like It Like That.”
• Toño Rosario: This Grammy-award nominated Merengue artist has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and has seen four of his albums achieve gold status.

Sunday, August 11 Lineup

• The Buena Vista Social Club with Eliades Ochoa: a loose consortium of associated musicians that released a landmark album of festive son, bolero, guajira, and danzón music. Their eponymous album won a 1998 Grammy and become the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary.
• Héctor “El Torito” Acosta: Acosta’s crooning vocals soar above musical backdrops with punctuated rhythms, plucky guitar riffs, and buttery-smooth bass lines that blend the merengue and bachata styles on albums like his latest, Merengue Y Sentimiento.
