After the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls battled their way to the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association championship bout in 2010, the Girls handed the mighty Oly Rollers their first- and second-ever losses in a triumphant trophy-winning finish. This season, after narrowly missing the semifinals in 2011 and 2012, the seven-team squad hopes to reclaim the title while continuing to fulfill its mission of highlighting women’s strength, athleticism, and independence. During roller derby, two opposing teams hurtle around an oval track, clashing with each other as each of their respective jammers tries to score points by speeding past the entire pack or gaining a bruise in the shape of a roller skate.

About Fillmore Auditorium
The Fillmore Auditorium—founded in 1907 as the Mammoth Roller Rink and renovated in 1999 to evoke the famous Fillmore in San Francisco—has hosted numerous stars and dignitaries on its stage. Although everyone from Marilyn Manson to James Blunt has packed the concert schedule, the space remains an especially popular site for jam bands; Phish mastermind Trey Anastasio christened the revamped venue in 1999 by performing a marathon set.
