When Brad Garrett, a self-described “seven-foot Jew who can’t play ball,” walked off the set of Everybody Loves Raymond with a milkcrate full of Emmys, it was just one more bow in a career filled with them. From his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson at age 23 to his current gig on ABC’s How to Live with Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life, the comedian has used his razor-sharp timing, booming register (although his natural voice is a bit higher), and general tallness to his advantage. Most have seen these distinct traits put to good use in his television work, but his standup career is nothing to sneeze at; Garrett’s opened for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Diana Ross, and Sammy Davis Jr.
