The Ugly Duckling

Told with jubilant song and dance, this well-loved story takes audiences on the titular bird’s journey toward self-confidence. Convinced she’s ugly because she looks so different from her family, the feathered adventurer leaves the nest and meets many other animals. As she gains experience and grows up, the duckling uncovers the real reason for her appearance, and learns to love herself for who she truly is.

In this timeless Brothers Grimm fairy tale, a long-haired maiden is trapped in a high tower, guarded by an evil witch. When Mother Gothel calls out, “Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair!” the young lady lowers her seemingly endless locks, allowing the woman to climb up the tower wall and teach her about the world. But when a valiant prince stumbles upon the tower, and Rapunzel lets her hair down for him, the heroine’s real adventure begins. Throughout this Galli Theater adaptation of the story, children will thrill at the action and adults will relive their memories of gym-class rope-climbing tests.

Galli Theater

Actor, philosopher, and all-around Renaissance man Johannes Galli has spent more than 25 years adapting age-old stories for the modern child. Taking the grim out of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, each of his shows engages audiences with colorful onstage action that sneaks in important lessons such as the power of kindness and how witches gradually became extinct. But the emphasis on education doesn’t mean viewers have to sit there quietly. The actors interact directly with their pint-sized audience, mixing with the crowd and even inviting wee ones on stage to aid in the storytelling.

I took my 9 year old nephew and was a little afraid that he is too old for the show. But he enjoyed it!! A great way to introduce children to the arts.
