With its latest community-run production, Ghostlight Theatre treats funny bones and handkerchiefs to the bittersweet comedy of The Cemetery Club. The oft-adapted 1990 play, later turned into a film starring Olympia Dukakis and Ellen Burstyn, introduces audiences to lifelong friends Ida, Lucille, and Doris––who are all in their late 50s and dealing with the untimely deaths of their husbands. Once a month, the widows meet for tea and to air their grievances about grieving before visiting their buried beaus. Ida is ready to move on with her life but can’t let go of her husband’s memory. Lucille relishes her new life as a spinster, whereas dour Doris prefers to stay bitter and alone. When Sam, a butcher and kindly widower, sparks up a romance with Ida, the play turns both heartbreaking and heartwarming as Doris and Lucille attempt to keep their lonely hearts club together.

About Ghostlight Theatre
Local thespians Matt McAuley and Richard Vines banded together with the Dysart Community Education Department to conceptualize Ghostlight Theatre on the tenets of entertaining and educating the community with the dramatic arts. The theatre's live productions give members of the community an opportunity to flex their theatrical muscles through acting, designing costumes, and pursuing careers as prop trees. Meanwhile, Ghostlight Theatre’s summer camps prepare budding thespians aged 10–18 for their moments in the spotlight.
