Global Basketball Summer League Tournament
The Global Basketball Summer League will showcase rising talents during a four-day tournament that starts next Monday, just days before the start of the NBA Summer League. On Thursday, July 10, that tournament is scheduled to culminate with a championship game at 2 p.m., where the week’s top two teams will clash for international hoops glory. More than 70 scouts, executives, and coaches are expected to attend, raising the stakes that much higher for participating players. The tournament—which will feature teams from across the globe, including Sin City’s own Desert Storm of the ABA—will duplicate the format of the NBA D-League, and will even use that league’s referees so long as they’re returned with their batteries re-charged.
Global Basketball Summer League
The Global Basketball Summer League (GBSL) acts as a scouting resource for professional coaches and scouts, who attend the league’s events in search of up-and-coming stars. Since 2008, GBSL has promoted more than 30 international events across the world, including ones in Las Vegas, New York, and even as far as Germany and Spain. The league’s primary goal—showcasing the talents of lesser-known hoopsters—has worked quite well, too: more than 800 former GBSL players are currently playing professional basketball in some capacity.
