Gotham Classic
A year ago at the Gotham Classic, the Ohio State Buckeyes shocked Notre Dame Fighting Irish during the showcase game by outscoring them 14–3 in the final minute of play to claim a 64–61 win. Fans can expect a similar level of excitement at this season’s tournament, which features a doubleheader at Madison Square Garden on the Saturday before Christmas.
At 7 p.m., second-team All-Atlantic 10 selection Kendall Anthony will lead the Richmond Spiders into a matchup with first-team All-WCC selection Stacy Davis and the Pepperdine Waves. Once the final buzzer sounds and the hoop sneezes out all the balls it ingested, three-point-shooting machine Ralston Turner and the North Carolina State Wolfpack will take the court on the heels of their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. They’ll square off against the West Virginia Mountaineers, who are in pursuit of their third Final Four appearance in school history.
Madison Square Garden
The current Madison Square Garden’s court is the fourth venue to bear the name, and sits five stories above the bustling streets of New York. Billed as “The World’s Most Famous Arena,” the Garden has played host to triumphant basketball and hockey games, breathless boxing matches, and appearances by such luminaries as Elvis, Billy Joel, and the Pope. Recently finished with the second year of a three-phase renovation, the center has streamlined crowd flow, upgraded dining options, and removed the ejection systems from the lower bowl seats.
