The Scouting Report
The Griffins and IceHogs know a little bit about tight races; last season, Grand Rapids finished just one point ahead of Rockford to claim first place in the division. This time around, it’s the IceHogs sitting atop the AHL Central with the Griffins in hot pursuit. Because of this, every game down the stretch will carry more weight—especially when the two teams meet head to head. In early February, the Griffins made up some ground when they swept a two-game set from the IceHogs, outscoring them 13–4 in the process. Barring a chance run-in at the hockey-stick store, the two squads will meet next on March 2, a few days after clashing with the Wolves during a Sunday showdown.

About Grand Rapids Griffins
As the top AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, the Grand Rapids Griffins glide through Van Andel Arena on a quest to dominate the Western Conference. Bone-rattling checks and supersonic breakaways echo in the 10,000-seat venue as the Griffins take on Midwest Division rivals. Having sent 125 former players to the National Hockey League, the Griffins provide audiences with an opportunity to scope out future stars, whose autographed pucks can be added to memorabilia collections or given to mascots Griff and Finn to help build their nest in the arena’s rafters.
