America has always been the most extreme country, from the Boston Tea Punchings to having the first man swear on the moon. We hold this shredding guitar solo to be self-evident with this GrouponLive deal to attend a Greensboro Roller Derby event. For $10, you get two tickets (up to a $20 value). Kids younger than 12 are admitted free.
Harry Potter-Themed Roller Derby Matches on Saturday, October 27 at the Simkins Sports Pavilion
This event’s double-header features the Gate City Rollergirls vs. the Carolina Bootleggers at 5 p.m., and the Mad Dollies vs. the Elm Street Nightmares at 7 p.m. Doors open at 4 p.m.
In fast-paced matches, gals on the all-female, skater-owned Greensboro Roller Derby dash around the track, throwing hips and shoulders into opposing skaters in a full-contact race for the high score. The Greensboro Roller Derby’s travel team, the Gate City Rollergirls, enter the rink first to take on the Carolina Bootleggers, who belong to the oldest roller derby league in the state. After the dust settles from the first match, The Mad Dollies and the Elm Street Nightmares—two of Greensboro Roller Derby’s intraleague teams—reconcile their differences with hard-hitting body checks and tea parties staged in the center of the rink. Halftime activities for both bouts invite fans to participate in Harry Potter-themed games such as quidditch and pitch-a-pony.
