Music From the Movies
Despite its name, Music From the Movies focuses on more than soundtracks from the silver screen. A replica of the Back to the Future DeLorean will be on stage at this family-friendly concert. Meanwhile, conductor Nate Beversluis leads the orchestra through soundtracks made famous by screens both big and small, touching on the pirates and cowboys of Hollywood’s Golden Age before vaulting into more modern fare. The iconic percussiveness of Psycho, for instance, might dissuade audience members from showering for a couple of months, whereas John Williams’s signature grandeur infuses each measure of his Jurassic Park theme. Then audiences buckle up for a trip through the time-shredding score of Back to the Future and sink into 2-D hilarity with Carl Stalling’s exuberant Looney Tunes scores.
Greensboro Symphony Orchestra
The Greensboro Symphony’s mighty oak has grown from the most acornic of beginnings—its story started in the 1920s with a group of musicians at Woman's College. Over the years, the symphony has grown into a cultural cornerstone of the community, with community-outreach programs, youth-involvement events, a secret volcano headquarters, and an endowment fund.
