Like cliff diving or ferret ownership, football is an endeavor best watched from the sidelines. Witness acts of bodily bravery with today’s GrouponLive deal to see the Grand Valley State University Lakers football team play the Ferris State Bulldogs in the Anchor-Bone Classic at Lubbers Stadium. For $25, you get a football outing for two for Saturday, October 6 at 7 p.m. (a $50 total value), which includes:

  • Two tickets for seating in section 201, 208, 101, or 108 (a $24 value).
  • Two T-shirts (a $26 value).<p>

Winner of the 2011 GLIAC North Division title, the Grand Valley State University football program rides its wave of seven consecutive victories into this winter’s Signing Day, when Head Coach Matt Mitchell retools his squad with a crop of new recruits. These latest Lakers fuse into a roster eager to show off its skills and neatly tied shoelaces at this fall’s Anchor-Bone Classic. At the annual battle, players relish the opportunity to disappoint their intrastate rivals, the Bulldogs of Ferris State, by promising them a walk and then giving them a bath. Piling on an average of 226 yards on the ground and 240 in the air during each game last season, sophomore quarterback Heath Parling marshaled a balanced offensive attack. Anticipate Parling’s fellow sophomore and backfield bud, running back Hersey Jackson, to plow through the line of scrimmage with a giant magnet, hoping to match his average of 5.7 yards per carry from last season.

Twice in the last seven years of the Classic, more than 14,000 fans swarmed Lubbers Stadium—which has an official capacity of less than 9,000. A frenzied atmosphere will undoubtedly descend on what will be a newly renovated stadium this October. Horseshoe seating will wrap around the end zone, and new turf will replace the old sod that was always spontaneously sprouting into swan-shaped hedges.
