Dennis James Hosts Halloween: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- The Show: In what has become a Bloomington tradition, acclaimed organist Dennis James returns to Indiana University—his alma mater—to accompany a screening of the silent 1923 version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
- The Movie: the story of Quasimodo, the deaf, half-blind bellringer of Notre Dame’s Cathedral, and Esmeralda, the dancing gypsy girl who captures his heart—at the risk of both their lives. Released in 1923, the silent film version was a hit for Universal Studios and made Lon Chaney (Quasimodo) into one of early Hollywood’s biggest stars.
- The Organist: Over more than 40 years, Dennis James has built a reputation as one of the world’s most prominent live accompanists for silent films, almost singlehandedly (or perhaps double-handedly) reviving the genre for modern audiences around the globe.
