Music achieves its full emotional effect only when performed live, just as great literature becomes comprehensible only when screamed aloud in a crowded subway train. Enjoy public performance with today's GrouponLive deal: for $10, you get one general-admission ticket to Harbor Haunt 2011 presented by Evans Lager at Shore Ultra Lounge in Long Beach on Sunday, October 30 (up to a $20.25 value, including all ticketing fees). Doors open at noon, and the event runs until 1 a.m.
Harbor Haunt 2011 teams up with Hottest 100 Music Festival Haunted Edition for a night of costumed musical bedlam on the eve of Halloween. Stages on both levels of the two-story Shore Ultra Lounge host more than 50 bands and DJs. On Level 1, DJs, hip-hop acts, and rock groups pump up crowds and disorient any actual ghosts with of-the-moment sounds. L.A. native model-turned-DJ Caroline D'Amore spins pop hits, and headliner Euphorix rattles the dance floor with seismograph-shattering bass beats.
Upstairs, Throwdown dishes out groove-metal mania that has warmed up audiences for bands including As I Lay Dying, and Carnifex riles up costumed moshers with a bellowing fusion of death metal and hardcore punk. Costumed attendees compete for accolades and prizes at a variety of contests throughout the venue. Because music is low in most essential nutrients, food vendors peddle eats throughout to keep skeleton-costumed concertgoers from becoming truly emaciated.
