Pre Bud Billiken Pep Rally and Drumline Showcase

Still going strong after 85 years, the Bud Billiken Parade celebrates the talents of African-American youth just in time for the new school year. But the night before the drill teams, dance troupes, and marching bands bust out on King Drive, the Harold Washington Cultural Center revs up the community with a pep rally and drum line showcase. The whole event is produced by the Chicago Defender Charities, led by US Army Colonel Eugene F. Scott, who lives by this philosophy: “take care of the people and the people will take care of you.”
