Holiday Doo Wop Extravaganza

  • The Duprees: with barbershop harmonies and old-fashioned showmanship, the Jersey quartet struck gold in 1962 with the pop ballad “You Belong to Me.”
  • Shirley Alston Reeves: as the original lead singer of The Shirelles, Shirley helped break hearts across the globe with the 1960 smash “Will You Love Me Tomorrow.”
  • Chris Montez: in 1962, Chris recorded the Top 10 single “Let’s Dance,” and listeners happily obliged.
  • The Legendary Teenagers: as one of the first all-teenage acts in rock history, they recorded the legendary “Why Do Fools Fall in Love,” which made Rolling Stone’s list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.”
  • Emil Stucchio and The Classics: this class-act vocal group first hit the charts in 1960 with “Cinderella,” before recording further hit pop ballads such as “P.S. I Love You” and “Till Then.”
  • The Devotions: formed in Queens in 1960, this doo-wop group found fame through the 1964 novelty hit “Rip Van Winkle.”
  • The Knockouts: in 1959, The Knockouts landed their first knockout with the lover’s lane soundtrack “Darling Lorraine.”

NYCB Theatre at Westbury

More than half a century ago, three partners raised a vibrant, multicolored tent on an underdeveloped industrial site and established the Westbury Music Fair. It followed its first production, The King and I, with a decade of top-name talent and Broadway musicals. Then, recognizing its place on the theater scene was permanent, it planted its roots as a fully enclosed theater-in-the-round. Expanding its repertoire to match its new digs, the theater showcased performers such as The Who, Bruce Springsteen, and Julie Andrews. Today, past a lounge blazing in purple and red lights, guests find that same circular stage hosting equally great musical acts and musical theater.
