Honeymoon in Vegas On Broadway
Jack Singer’s marriage phobia puts average fears to shame. Still, he one day summons the courage to ask his girlfriend Betsy for her hand. The pair zip off to Las Vegas, hoping to tie the knot in what should be a picture-perfect ending.
Vegas, however, has other ideas.
Enter Tommy Korman, an old-school gambler looking for a second chance at love. Tommy’s accustomed to getting what he wants, and right now, he wants Betsy. He rigs a poker game that ends in her having to spend a weekend with him in Hawaii, prompting Jack to follow in hot pursuit. What follows is a madcap yet ultimately romantic journey of snappy song and dance numbers, Hawaiian Mata Haris, and, of course, a team of skydiving Elvises.
Soundtracking the madness is three-time Tony winner Jason Robert Brown. New York Magazine calls it “A knockout! Jason Robert Brown’s terrific songs are filled with melodic and lyrical wit. The non-musical parts were written by Andrew Bergman, the scribe of the original 1992 film on which the stage version is based. However, the writing and music would be nothing without a knockout cast. Tony Danza embodies the nostalgic cool of Korman, while Tony-nominee Rob McLure (Chaplin) and Broadway vet Brynn O’Malley (Annie) bring charisma and physical comedy to the roles of the young lovers.
