Hungarian State Folk Ensemble
Cloaked in billowing skirts, feathered hats, gold-piped military tunics, and other colorful garb, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble shows off the traditional dances of their homeland. But their mission isn't just to perform the dances—they also aim to preserve centuries of tradition. Drawing from more than five decades of research, the troupe's choreography and musical pieces hail from all corners of Hungary, showcasing the wildly diverse styles that have evolved over the centuries. Intricate footwork and flying leaps join melodies that draw on the same rich Magyar tradition. Some folk tunes flow from instruments relatively unaltered from the days they were played in isolated villages, while other arrangements filter ancient pieces through the genius of Bartók, Liszt, and Brahms, and a Brita pitcher, in case there's any lead in them.
Mayo Performing Arts Center
During Hollywood's Golden Age, The Community Theatre was the crowning achievement of Walter Reade's chain of New Jersey movie palaces. By the 1980s, after five decades of movie screenings and catastrophic popcorn wars, the theater sat in disrepair. Concerned citizens banded together in 1994 to save the historic building from a sad end, and in May 2011, after a series of renovations, the theater officially changed its name to the Mayo Performing Arts Center. The venue currently hosts more than 200 performances a year, occasional art showings, and performance-arts education classes for adults and children.

About Mayo Performing Arts Center
The Mayo Performing Arts Center straddles time. While one foot is planted in the old-fashioned charm of the 1930s movie-palace golden age, the other is firmly in the tech-savvy modern day. Between is a stretch of history that saw the theater fall into disrepair and then resurrect itself to its star-studded heyday thanks to volunteers. Since its 1994 rebirth, the center has welcomed everyone from the Kirov Orchestra of St. Petersburg to Ringo Starr and Aretha Franklin. But, if the Mayo Center were a tripod, its third foot would certainly reach toward the future—a suite of education studios is on site to cultivate the next generation of performers.
