Huntsville Ballet Company Presents Billy the Kid
Though Billy the Kid was already known in his time as a lawman, a murderous outlaw, a cowboy, and a young steer, the dubious renaissance man’s legend has only grown since his death at the age of 21. Having been portrayed in numerous films, books, songs, and plays, the duplicitous Kid now becomes the focus of Huntsville Ballet Company’s latest production. The company dancers interpret the wily character’s legendary status through graceful leaps and twirls, acting out the rollercoaster life of the enigmatic figure. Preceding the main event, students from Huntsville Ballet Company’s outreach program take the stage to show off their sure-footed skills.
Huntsville Ballet Company
Huntsville Ballet Company’s classic and contemporary productions are as much about enriching the local arts community as they are about entertaining the audience. Dedicated to outreach and education, the group invites students from Huntsville Ballet School to audition for performances with professional dancers and the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra. When their soloists aren’t pirouetting through The Firebird or anthropomorphizing sugarplums in The Nutcracker, the company welcomes visitors such as Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and the New York City Ballet.
