The homegrown thespians of Ignite! Community Theatre incite waves of laughter with their production of William Van Zandt and Jane Milmore’s Love, Sex, and the I.R.S. The bawdy comedy of errors tells the tale of Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur, two struggling men rooming together in New York City. Jon has been fibbing on his tax returns, taking advantage of Leslie’s androgynous name and listing him as his wife. When the IRS gets suspicious, the play revs into full-fledged farce, as Leslie cross-dresses to fool the tax inspector, Jon’s mother drops by unannounced, and zany complications start to snowball. Razor-sharp wit and unapologetic silliness tickles ribs throughout the show, which takes place in the intimate yet elegant Commandery Room. A wraparound balcony treats audiences to elevated viewing, and a black- and white-checkered floor encourages postshow games of human chess.
