Celebrating a decade of opera production, Wichita Grand Opera opens its 10th main-stage season with a riveting production of Giuseppe Verdi’s Il Trovatore. Maestro Steven Mercurio recently wrapped tours with Andrea Bocelli, Sting, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and now applies his experience to conduct this saga of romance and revenge revolving around a 15-century Spanish count, a pair of youthful lovers, and a bitter gypsy who seeks vengeance against the count’s father. Metropolitan Opera stars Eduardo Villa and Zvetelina Vassileva perform alongside Wichita Grand Opera alums Michael Nansel and Suzanne Hendrix, as well as two-time Grammy nominee John Marcus Bindel. The approximately 2.5-hour production grants guests one intermission and several opportunities to participate in the act of clapping while crying Wichita Grand Opera performs Il Trovatore in its original Italian, though supertitles translate the show into English.
