A campy 1930s-style musical, Dames at Sea parodies the genre and nabs its catchy lyrics, upbeat scores, obsession with Herbert Hoover tattoos, and bashfully bawdy sailor-speak. During the play, wide-eyed celebrity-hopeful Ruby lands a chorus part in a Broadway musical, where she eyes the melodious charms of Dick, a sailor-songwriter. Ill fate strikes their romance and production, with the theater demolished and cast mired in a love triangle before the finale calls on Ruby and Dick to save the show aboard a battleship. Three-time Tony Award nominee Randy Skinner—whose credits include a Broadway run of 42nd Street—directs and choreographs the professional cast and crew through the toe-tapping affair.
