Live theater tends to be more thrilling than film, largely due to the heightened odds of seeing someone flub a line or deliver a stirring monologue while sitting in your lap. Witness truly dramatic close-ups with this Groupon to see The Irish Curse, presented by Triangle Productions at The Sanctuary. For $17, you get one ticket for red-section seating (a $35 value). Performances will be held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., from Thursday, March 8, to Sunday, April 1. There will be no show on Sunday, March 11.
The Irish Curse is a rollicking investigation of masculinity straight from the pen of Martin Casella, who not only played one of the parapsychologists in Steven Spielberg's Poltergeist, but also worked beside the silver-screen titan as an assistant director while filming the Academy Award–winning film Raiders of the Lost Ark. Rife with sizzling language and brutal honesty, The Irish Curse zeroes in on an all-male cast during weekly support-group gatherings in a church basement, where they address a specific man-related imperfection that impacts them individually. Obsessive body-image gripes are soon interrupted, however, when a fresh-faced newcomer joins the group and proceeds to unveil the comical truths of their collective predicament.
Now in its 22nd season, Triangle Productions forges into the future under the leadership of founder and executive producer Don Horn. The Sanctuary, meanwhile, lends its spacious, 200-seat auditorium as the troupe's home venue. Outside, an ample parking lot ensures attendees won't have trouble finding a space in which to reenact their favorite scenes after the show.
