What You’ll Do

Rolling sushi takes more than a hungry stomach—it also requires an eye for detail and a gentle-yet-firm touch. To master the art can take a lifetime, but at Chef Mamie Nishide’s 2.5-to-3-hour BYOB workshop, she’ll get you on the way. By the session’s end, students will have a greater appreciation for every part of the roll, from rice to wrap.

  • Learn the Ins and Outs of Sushi
Chef Mamie covers rice preparation, knife techniques for slicing fish and veggies, and how to make sushi soy sauce, vinegar, and eel sauce before teaching her pupils how to roll everything together.

  • Hands-On Practice
Combine ingredients as you see fit to create custom sushi rolls.

  • Enjoy Your Work
The evening is BYOB and participants additionally receive one special sake cocktail

Mamie Nishide Mamie Nishide
Sushi Chef and Culinary Instructor

Chef Mamie Nishide’s first trip to the US was for business. Graduating from Baruch College, she worked a spell on Wall Street, but soon came to miss the sushi, tempura, and gorgeous desserts from her native Japan. So she turned from business to pleasure, starting Japanese Cooking Studio, starring on Food Network’s Sweet Genius, getting featured in Brides magazine, and giving at-home culinary lessons.
