Seeing one of your favorite bands is a transcendent experience, like seeing your favorite actor play your favorite president. Spoil your senses with this GrouponLive deal to see Jefferson Starship and Friends with special guest Nona Hendryx at The Paramount in Huntington. For $18, you get one general-admission ticket on Friday, March 23, at 8 p.m. (up to a $35 value, including all Ticketmaster fees).
Founding member Paul Kantner and the 2012 crew of Jefferson Starship blast through galaxies of acid-rock hits with a cast of revered friends. Upgraded after the demise of Jefferson Airplane, yet not to be confused with the '80s offshoot, Starship, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers of Jefferson Starship populated '70s radio with a mix of heady science fiction, folky psychedelia, and paunchy riffs, never succumbing to parachute jumpsuits or using rock 'n' roll for the gains of urban infrastructure. For this special mission, original Airplaners Paul Kantner and David Freiberg team with all-stars from four generations of Jefferson Starship incarnations. Long-time lead guitarist Slick Aguilar, drummer Donny Baldwin, and former Supremes keyboardist Chris Smith accompany the Grammy-nominated vocal talents of Cathy Richardson, star of the off-Broadway smash Love, Janis. Expect a scroll of classics ranging from '60s haymakers such as “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit” to '70s hayrollers such as “Jane” and “Miracles.”
Special guest chanteuse Nona Hendryx, perhaps best known for the Labelle hit “Lady Marmalade,” lends her skyscraping larynx to the festivities, and guest violinist Jason Crosby rosins his bow in a tribute to departed fiddler Papa John Creach. The Paramount's cavernous, exposed-brick-lined theater fosters a laid-back concert vibe as performers take the stage. Guests can also visit a bar on the main floor without missing a literary allusion or falling into a fractal dimension.
