What You’ll Do
According to Hallmark, approximately 151 million cards pass from hand to hand each year for Valentine’s Day—and that’s not counting the boxed cards often exchanged in classrooms. In this workshop, artist Jessica Eldredge does her part to make a few of those cards just a little more personal, one sheet of hand-dyed paper at a time. After guiding visitors through making up to three cards, the textile aficionado sends guests home with several sheets of the vivid paper so they can continue to create cards at home.
Learn Some History
Eldredge shares information on the creation and enduring popularity of Valentine’s Day cards.
Use premade templates and designs as inspiration for your cards, or create an entirely new and more personal design of your own.
Ready to Give
Bring home up to three handmade cards with corresponding envelopes—all they’ll need is a signature and a stamp.
Inspired by the endless possibilities of a simple sheet of paper, artist Jessica Eldredge has spent more than a decade creating collages. Jessica graduated from the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture, where she studied decorative arts, and textiles in particular. She now puts that knowledge to use, not only while making collages, but also when she hand dyes the paper used in her one-of-a-kind creations.
