What You'll Do
When you crack into their golden, flaky crust, you find a steaming, pillowy interior that's just waiting for a dollop of sausage gravy or butter. Biscuits like these take skill—fortunately that's something personal chef (and bona-fide Southerner) Jessica O'Neal has in spades. During a hands-on lesson, she demystifies the tools, ingredients, and techniques necessary to create mouthwatering biscuits while detailing their historical background along the way.
Work from Three Delicious Recipes
Students will bake classic buttermilk biscuits (served with homemade sausage gravy), sweet-potato and rosemary biscuit sliders, and blue-cheese and pecan mini tea biscuits.
Enjoy Your Creations
After the lesson, feast on the fruits of your labor with sweet tea—BYOB optional.
Recreate the Treats at Home
Bring the recipes with you for future baking endeavors.
A farmer's daughter from South Carolina, Jessica O'Neal's passion is southern cooking—and it's taken her from Charleston Cooks!, to founding JLOkitchens, to cooking for an NBA player and teaching with Common Threads. But along the way it's been her mission to prove that southern cooking is about more than just deep frying and butter. Now a teacher at CulinAerie, she creates specialty meals for families throughout D.C. while keeping an eye on the healthy, seasonal side of the south.
