What You'll Get
Improv comedy shows, unlike criminal-court proceedings and open-heart surgeries, encourage people in the room to shout out suggestions. Explore the extemporaneous with this deal to see Improv 7 presented by the Actor’s Theatre of New Orleans at The Joy Theater. For $25, you get two general admissions for Saturday, December 15, at 10:30 p.m. (up to a $63 value, including all fees). Doors open at 9:30 p.m.
With an uncanny ability to think up outrageous characters on the fly and rattle off unscripted quips, Improv 7’s players craft never-the-same shows every night they’re on stage. In the style of Whose Line is it Anyway?, the cast steers each game and skit with suggestions from the audience, adding an element of unpredictability to each show without releasing a pack of blindfolded wolverines on stage.
The Joy Theater
When The Joy Theater first opened as a movie theater in 1947, its flashing marquee advertised its premiere showing of Lover Come Back, starring Lucille Ball and George Brent. Similar to how the movie’s main characters divorced and later reconciled, the theater would eventually close in 2003, only to return in 2011 as a renovated, multipurpose venue. With a lobby festooned with art deco flair and a towering sign returned to its former neon glory, the intimate Joy Theater now hosts concerts, theater performances, and flash mobs of jitterbugging ghosts.
Though this merchant sometimes offers a discounted price online, the deal is still the best deal available.
