Comedian Judy Tenuta goes by many names: Petite Flower, Love Goddess, and Aphrodite of the Accordion. While the first two sobriquets refer to some of the characters she’s created for HBO specials, a series of Diet Dr. Pepper commercials, and other projects of the stage and screen, the final name somewhat hyperbolically addresses, fittingly, her adroit accordion playing. And though the Aphrodite occasionally lugs her squeezebox on stage, its wonky harmonies are not what earned her two Grammy nominations. Those, rather, were bestowed for her two comedy albums, which included In Goddess We Trust. Onstage, she assails audiences with a delivery that alternates between the raspy growl of an enraged grizzly and the piercing lilt of a woodlands sprite. She doesn’t shy away from sharing her opinion on current events, freely taking into her sights taboos involving sex, politics, and religion.
“We had a great time - all the comedians were funny - I met them after the show - Anthony is a cool guy!”
