What You’ll Do
With its thumping drums, chainsaw guitar solos, and strutting bass lines—rock ‘n’ roll is fun for everyone. But at Rhythm & Soul 2014, girls take center stage. The event benefits Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, a nonprofit music and mentoring program that empowers girls and women alike to be fierce and bold.
Dance to Alumni Bands
Harsh Crowd and Children, two bands that sprung from Willie Mae Rock Camp’s programs, get crowds dancing, as does 10-year-old alum DJ Big Bang.
Toast the Camp
Drink cocktails and feast on hearty hors d’oeuvres.
Test Your Luck
Bid on items in a silent auction and enter a raffle—all to help raise funds for the Camp.
Founder, Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls
After volunteering at the Portland Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls, Karla Schickele found her mission: to bring the same opportunity to girls throughout NYC. For the past decade, she and a group of fellow musicians have welcomed burgeoning rock goddesses to their Girls Rock! Camp and Ladies Rock Camp. And their supportive environment has earned plenty of attention from everyone from the New York Times to MTV and NPR.
