Faced with a bottle-cap-covered, post-party floor one morning, roommates Joe Walsh and Kent Frayn picked up a magnet and decided to work smarter instead of harder. In that moment, the Chicago Tribune tells, the DropCatch was born. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, the two began embedding rare-earth magnets into wood, creating openers that could not only snag caps, but also magnetize them so that they would create a sort-of bottle-cap-beard—a mess preventer and conversation piece.
Porter: Baltic birch wood, stained with a walnut finish, hides a magnet that can hold upwards of 60 bottle caps.
Striped Pilsner: Also capable of holding more than 60 caps, this design flaunts its fine craftsmanship, flanking two maple inlays with quartersawn walnut.
Both: Each model is hand-crafted in the US, can be mounted to a wall with screws or stuck to a metal surface with its back magnets, and measures 8”x3.25”x.75”.
