What You'll Get

A rock concert, much like a seismologists’ office party, often results in everyone getting rowdy and destroying their expensive instruments. Catch some fully licensed sonic chaos with this deal to see Kinky with Ghosthouse, Nebular, DJ Resistol 5000, and Rude Gentlemen at the Congress Theater. For $13, you get one general-admission ticket for Saturday, June 9, at 8 p.m. (a $25 value).

Kinky’s forthcoming album, Sueño de la Máquina, begins a new chapter for the five-piece electropop outfit. Produced by John King of the Dust Brothers, this fifth studio effort ushers in the second decade Kinky has been blending the stylized dance grooves of North America with the fervent rhythms of its native Mexico. The processed beats and guitar riffs on tracks such as “Intoxícame” have captivated live audiences in some 180 live shows this year.

The Chicago electrofunk trio Ghosthouse also takes the stage, thumping bass and chanting lyrics to mesmerize crowds and cure disco fever. A testament to “all things throwback,” the group grifts the heavy bass lines and shoutable refrains from the best of funk and soul bands, and creates something distinctively its own. On the trio’s free download Stop Drop and Roll, vocalist Chuck New summons a sexy Prince-ish pitch when he cries out, “Liquor is my kindle, champagne is my flame, and the way you shake is like gasoline, so just start that party, babe.”

To start the evening off Trancid, Rude Gentlemen, and Nebular eschew oversized scarves to warm up the speakers with their DJ decks. DJ Resistol 5000 also breaks from resident sets in the West Loop and Pilsen to slay ears with signature mixes of Latin rock, combining a heavily distorted garage-rock sound with Spanish salutes to the Ramones.
