Dance and poetry are powerfully interwoven during Lanita Joseph Dance & Cultural Center’s latest piece, Black: Expressions of Love. Actors and dancers pay homage to Black History Month as well as pertinent current events by focusing on the stories and struggles of 100 black boys and men. After the performance, writer and director Lanita Joseph leads a discussion with the audience about the issues addressed by the show.

LaNita Joseph is an advocate for women, children, minorities, and the LGBTQ community. The method of her advocacy: empowering people to express themselves through dance, the performing arts, and poetry. Through free dance programs, as well as outreach, the nonprofit explores issues such as self-esteem, body image, and bullying, all while inspiring audiences and imparting performers not only with an outlet but also with a valuable skill.
