The Little Drummer Boy
With a flick of their wrists and a wiggle of their fingers, the puppeteers of Le Theatre de Marionette bring to life this classic story of humility and belief that has been integral to the Christmas season for decades. The tale centers on the young drummer Joshua, who is summoned by the three Magi to witness the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. Too poor to bring a gift for the baby, the boy plays him a song that swells into an inspirational thunder. A cast of 30 handmade marionettes brings the Nativity to life on intricately designed sets. Before the show, audiences can learn how the marionettes were made, and stay behind afterward for pictures and puppeteering demonstrations.
Geppetto's Theater & Workshop
“It all starts with an idea and block of wood,” says John Hopkins, founder of Geppetto's Theater & Workshop. While that may be true for his meticulously hand-carved marionettes—which star in the full gamut of classic children’s stories from Hansel and Gretel to The Wizard of Oz—it took a little more for Geppetto's Theater & Workshop itself. John began his performances in a defunct bus station in Arlington, drawing in families with just the skill of his hands and voice, before achieving enough success to move to Dallas and expand his skilled team of puppeteers and voice actors.
