WSC Avant Bard entertains audiences with cutting-edge productions of modern and classic theatrical works, challenging audiences with memorably intense performances. Written by French existentialist Albert Camus, Les Justes (The Just Ones) sheds light on the machinations and crises of consciences felt by a terrorist group of Russian revolutionaries as they plot the death of a grand duke and determine how to split a check five ways at dinner. WSC Avant Bard veteran Rahaleh Nassri presents a fresh translation of the play and company member Jay Hardee directs, and the Artisphere’s Black Box Theatre creates an intimate space for actors to forge an emotional bond with show-goers, deepening the betrayal when fans find them acting for other audiences.

WSC Avant Bard

Established as the Washington Shakespeare Company in 1990, WSC Avant Bard is dedicated to updating classic theater for modern audiences, revitalizing well-worn drama with challenging interpretations. Under the leadership of newly appointed artistic director Tom Prewitt, the theater treats audiences to daring productions of established classics, new works, and little-known Shakespeare fan-fiction about him teaming up to fight crime with Queen Elizabeth I.

Customer Reviews

It's a beautiful theater and everything I've seen there has been wonderful.

I was surprised at the quality of the acting.
Jacqueline K. · March 21, 2012
Great performances in a small venue. The staging and cosumes are well done and these are plays that you don't get to see done live very often. Artisphere is a great match for this company and the Artisphere people are friendly and will bend over backwards to be of help.
