What You'll Do
New York is a sprawling metropolis—but it's also one of the greenest cities in the world. There are hundreds of miles of parks, gardens, and forests, each with its own history. Author and city naturalist Leslie Day brings groups to Central Park or Fort Tryon Park to learn about the plants and animals that thrive in each habitat. And because New York City is right beneath the Atlantic Flyway, the route migratory birds take each fall and spring, she'll also point out the warblers, tanagers, orioles, and woodpeckers flocking by.

For 36 years, Dr. Leslie Day lived on a houseboat on the Hudson River. The experience opened her eyes to the diversity of nature within New York City, and since then, she's been a passionate educator on the topic. She's taught science to students of all levels from pre-k through middle school on to graduate school. She's also written three books about the natural world in New York City, and even fielded questions on the topic for The New York Times.
