The MainStreet Theatre Company’s theatrical interpretation of Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time resurrects the Newbery Award–winning novel as a live-action stage production adapted by John Glore, which unravels a multilayered tale of enduring familial love in front of a rapt audience. The story’s teenage heroine, Meg, joins her brother Charles and friend Calvin in a quest to rescue her scientist father, who was sequestered by oppressive characters on another planet for refusing to pay time-travel tolls. With the help of Mrs. Whatsit and a cast of unique creatures, the young gang learns that the only way to pry Meg’s dad from the grasp of evil is with their unconditional love. In the intimate environs of the Lewis Family Playhouse, peepers can pick out every detail of the stage’s goings-on, from artfully rendered emotion to the tragic parting of lovelorn curtains for the entirety of the play.
