Lightwire Theater Presents: The Adventures of Tortoise and Hare

This adaptation of Aesop’s classic fable explores modern-day distractions such as smartphones and video games. Old Man Tortoise and Big Daddy Hare must join forces despite their differences in order to save their lost children. The ancient tale receives a modern twist as the overconfident hare is waylaid by such distractions as his cell phone and television.

Blending ballet, puppetry, and a laser light show, the “story dancers” of Lightwire update this timeless fable with costumes outlined in electroluminescent wires. In the creators’ hometown of New Orleans, the Gambit wrote that “the staging is unique, and the colored outlines are not garish but poetic.” The puppeteers of pure light might seem familiar to fans of America’s Got Talent: the stars of another Lightwire show, Darwin the Dinosaur, were featured prominently on the program.
