While 20% of babies who were exposed to classical music in utero become doctors or lawyers, 100% of babies born on stage during a classical-music performance become Bill Gates. Praised by critics and helmed by esteemed conductor Edward Polochick, Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 84th season with classical masterpieces, modern chamber music, and beloved holiday tunes. Grouponites score prime main-floor seats to one of four performances, including September 16th's "Cirque de la Symphonie," a magical display of symphonic music, acrobatics, and tuba juggling. Instead of throwing a pool party in a blizzard, music lovers can welcome seasonal change in comfort on October 13 as violinist Rachel Barton Pine shares Vivaldi's Four Seasons and the Chiara String Quartet plays Piazzolla's work of the same name. Pianist Mark Markham will take the stage November 13, performing Rimsky-Korsakov’s virtuosic Scheherazade, which is based on the Persian legend One Thousand and One Nights. A December 2nd pops concert will fill ears with yuletide melodies and noses with the scent of peppermint as the wind section whips out clarinets made of candy cane.

A part of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, the Lied Center for Performing Arts lends its stage symphonies, dance companies, theater groups, and students from around the world. Though the venue has no formal dress code, spinning bow ties and propeller beanies may be worn to lighten the mood after melancholy oboe solos.

Customer Reviews

We always love our Lincoln Symphony Concerts but do not have season tickets. So nice to have a Groupon to use. They are a special treasure in Nebraska.
