Fall Out Boy
There’s nothing like a reunion to get fans’ hearts pumping. After a whirlwind of hits and tours that lasted for nearly a decade, Fall Out Boy’s shout-along tunes and undeniably catchy licks went silent as the band took an indefinite hiatus in 2009. Fortunately for their devoted following, it didn’t stick, and 2013’s Save Rock and Roll sees the pop-punk foursome returning to form. Bassist Pete Wentz’s irreverent lyrics and wordy titles are as present as ever—lead single “My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up)” serves as a boldly verbose reentry to the music world—but if anything, they’ve amped up the ambition. Singer Patrick Stump’s frayed cry to “put on your war paint” soars above an operatic, galloping score in album opener “The Phoenix”, spiking paint sales worldwide and leading Rolling Stone’s Simon Vozick-Levinson to declare that “life is more fun with Fall Out Boy than without them.”
