Christian rockers treat fans to expanded anthems off new record after opening sets from breathy songbird and faith-based Irish ensemble
Without music, concerts wouldn’t exist and funk would just be the smell emanating from an old sock filled with corn. Lend an ear to this deal to see The Struggle tour, featuring Tenth Avenue North, Audrey Assad, and Rend Collective Experiment at Crossroads Church in Wheat Ridge. For $20, you get two general-admission tickets on Wednesday, October 17, at 7 p.m. (a $40 value). Doors open at 6 p.m.
Hot on the heels of their new album, The Struggle, the reverent rockers of Tenth Avenue North have collected two of their Christian contemporaries for their nationwide The Struggle tour. Described by keyboardist Brendon Shirley as “the next step” for the band, the new record expands their faith-based anthems with more elaborate arrangements, including a group chorus of more than 700 fans, and experimental touches such as using Twizzlers in place of drumsticks. Fans can also expect to hear such classic hits as “You Are More,” an uplifting ballad that grows into a soaring combination of strings and vocal catharsis, and “By Your Side,” which spent 48 weeks on the Billboard Christian Songs chart when it debuted in 2008.
Aiding in the evening’s reverie is Audrey Assad, who intertwines her breathy voice with expertly tickled keys. The multi-instrumentalists of Rend Collective Experiment hail from the north of Ireland, bringing with them a sound built from stirring vocal harmonies, crystalline keyboards, and drum loops.
