Pittsburgh Musical Theater adds chords and crescendos to Dickens’s classic holiday story with its performance of A Lyrical Christmas Carol, which includes traditional carols augmented by the music of Bach, Mozart, and Vaughan Williams. Professional guest actors accompany the talented cast of student thespians to recreate the famous tale of Yuletide-hating curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge. Families follow along as the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future guide the miserly protagonist through warm holiday parties and beyond the graveyard gates where he learns the meaning of giving and the true purpose of the “take a penny, leave a penny” tray. Each of the ghosts’ skillfully sung boos and spookily plotted dramatic turns will take place at the vibrant New Hazlett Theater, a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating the arts through cultural events.
