Macbeth on Broadway Starring Alan Cumming

**Clip from _Macbeth_ on Broadway**

The first lines of _Macbeth_ are typically spoken by three witches prophesizing as lightning crashes overhead. But when Alan Cumming asks, “When shall we three meet again?” he does so as a bloodstained madman being admitted to a psychiatric ward by a pair of handlers. Fitted in hospital garb and left alone in his room, Cumming proceeds to singlehandedly perform the “Scottish Play” in its entirety, manically flipping between the murderous Macbeth, the duplicitous Lady Macbeth, and a roster of characters that meet their demise before the play’s end. [_Entertainment Weekly_](http://gr.pn/12pSjaQ) lauds the interpretation as “wickedly clever,” citing the set of closed-circuit televisions that give the audience an up-close look at the leading man as he vaults between roles. ####Barrymore Theatre As the last theatre built by theatrical giants Lee and J.J. Shubert, the Barrymore Theatre is the only surviving edifice from their Broadway empire. Completed in 1928, the venue has seen almost a century’s worth of performances from such stars as Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The opulent performance hall dazzles visitors with a three-tiered chandelier and the intricate patterns that arch over the front boxes.
