What You'll Get
A great vocalist’s art springs directly from the body, much like a bird’s flight or an armadillo’s uncanny impersonation of a roly-poly. See how a body sings with today’s deal: for $15, you get two general-admission adult tickets to The Magic Flute, presented by Opéra Louisiane at Christian Life Academy on Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m. (a $30 value). K–12 students are admitted free, and college students are admitted for $5 with a valid student ID.
Opéra Louisiane’s English-language performance of Mozart’s The Magic Flute marks the fourth anniversary of the Young People’s Opera Program, a landmark that Opéra Louisiane’s young artists acknowledge by donning kaleidoscopic costumes and belting out arias accessible to all ages. Mozart’s beloved fairy tale fluctuates between slapstick and transcendence as the daring Prince Tamino, equipped with the opera’s namesake woodwind and his own formidable pipes, attempts to rescue his queen’s daughter from her supposed captor. Equal parts mad and magnificent, the 90-minute production takes place over two intrigue-filled acts, borne on voices that lament and exult with the smooth force of butter shot from a bazooka.
