When Martin Lawrence started hosting HBO’s Def Comedy Jam in 1992, he couldn’t have possibly imagined what would follow. Because it showcased his inimitable brand of hyperactive raunch and crowd work, the gig eventually led to a string of hit leading roles, from the small-screen success of his eponymous TV show to star turns in movies such as Big Momma’s House and Wild Hogs. But his most beloved character is probably Detective Marcus Burnett in the Bad Boys series, which he’s slated to reprise in the third and fourth installments in 2017 and 2019, respectively. His first love, however, will always be standup, and each set gives fans an earful of his charismatic lewdness, not to mention the chance to get ribbed by the legendary comic.
The Venue at Horseshoe Casino
The Venue at Horseshoe Casino offers big city entertainment from just outside the big city. Revelers pile into the casino's complimentary shuttles and set off for Hammond, where penny slots and game tables await before they file into The Venue. The acts taking the stage could land anywhere on the live spectacle spectrum: Penn & Teller might combine comedy and magic with the sound of only one person talking, MMA fighters could get adrenaline pumping, or Huey Lewis and the News could inspire audience sing-alongs.
