Like a countrified Santa Claus with nicer hair, Grammy winner Martina McBride blankets the country in warm, fuzzy feelings with her 32-city Joy of Christmas tour. Joined by a 12-piece band, including a string section, the smoky-voiced songbird captivates audiences with her rafter-reaching renditions of classics such as “O Holy Night” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and shows off her snappier side with more contemporary Yuletide tunes, such as “Let It Snow.” Throughout the show, an expansive video screen helps establish a cheerful tone with flickering images of wintry street scenes and white-capped mountains. As an added treat, local celebrities make an appearance to help recite How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, a stirring poem about the power of generosity in the fight against heart atrophy.

In more intimate moments of the concert, McBride takes time to chat with her audience about their Christmas memories and traditions, and shows home movies of Christmas morning at her own house. The Joy of Christmas tour is only one facet of McBride’s holiday celebration this year: she has participated in the taping of two Christmas specials and recently visited Franklin, Tennessee, to film a new video for her cover of Charles Brown’s bluesy classic “Please Come Home for Christmas.”
