Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives performing "Country Boy Rock & Roll"
“If it’s the chart or heart, choose the heart. It’ll take you to the right place,” Marty Stuart recently told the [_Wall Street Journal_](http://gr.pn/Mmz8GG). The sentiment may as well be a mantra for the legendary honky-tonker and guitar and mandolin virtuoso. They're the words of a man on a mission—a mission to preserve the purity of traditional country music. Stuart continues this lifelong quest with his latest album, _Nashville Volume 1: Tear the Woodpile Down_. It's a record that hearkens back to “the Old Testament days” of country, when musicians broke speed limits with their mandolins and Telecasters doubled as flamethrowers. He's joined by His Fabulous Superlatives, a backup band built for endless hoedowns and hayrides, and together they keep the tunes chugging with expert musicianship, dueling twang, and intertwining harmonies. Fans can also expect to see hits from Stuart's solo career, such as “Hillbilly Rock” and “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin'." When delivered with his trademark charisma and talent, each song proves why he's scored both five Grammys and membership in the Grand Ole Opry and played with the likes of country icons such as Johnny Cash and Lester Flatt of The Foggy Mountain Boys.
