The Scouting Report
Despite missing a couple months with a hand injury, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton still owns the two longest home runs in the big leagues this season. Both landed a whopping 484 feet from home plate, highlighted by a June 23 bomb against the Cardinals. The powerful outfielder will be back in the lineup when the Marlins host the Atlanta Braves during their final Friday home game of the 2015 campaign on September 25. That evening, the team will also commemorate the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future with a celebration that includes a giveaway of “Billy McFly” bobbleheads, the donation of the night’s proceeds to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, and a post-game display of the fireworks that destroyed the Hill Valley Clock Tower in 1955.
The Marlins take the field at Marlins Park: a LEED Gold certified 36,000-seat facility equipped with a retractable roof, fish tanks behind home plate, and a vibrant sculpture in left-center field that kicks into motion for Marlins home runs. Born in 1993, the Florida Marlins quickly established themselves as contenders in the National League, taking home World Series titles in 1997 and 2003. Today, after some light rebranding to go along with the new ballpark, the rechristened Miami Marlins aim to continue traditions new and old.
