The Scouting Report
With less than a month remaining in the regular season, the Marlins find themselves within striking distance of a Wild Card spot. Throughout the summer, the team’s offense has out-slugged opponents behind the NL RBI leader and one of the most prolific home run hitters in baseball. On September 6, they’ll square off against the Braves—another team in the thick of the playoff race. That night, fans can also enjoy intergalactic activities and entertainment during the fifth annual Star Wars night at Marlins Park. Plus, a meet-and-greet before the game will enable Star Wars fans to get up-close and personal with their favorite characters and get Darth Vader’s thoughts on the controversy surrounding instant replay in baseball.
The Marlins take the field at Marlins Park: a LEED Gold certified 36,000-seat facility equipped with a retractable roof, fish tanks behind home plate, and a vibrant sculpture in left-center field that kicks into motion for Marlins home runs. Born in 1993, the Florida Marlins quickly established themselves as contenders in the National League, taking home World Series titles in 1997 and 2003. Today, after some light rebranding to go along with the new ballpark, the rechristened Miami Marlins aim to continue traditions new and old, expanding their list of Hall of Famers.
