- Vocalosity: Twelve effervescent singers celebrate the power of the human voice in a parade of melodies that span from ancient Gregorian chants to ’50s doo-wop to modern pop hits. It’s the latest project from arranger/composer Deke Sharon, vocal producer of Pitch Perfect and NBC’s The Sing Off, whom NPR praises for “making a cappella cool again”
Vänskä Conducts Kullervo: As part of the Sibelius 150 jubilee celebrating the Finnish composer’s birthday, the orchestra revisits Sibelius’s symphonic saga of the mythological Finnish tragedy of Kullervo with support from star vocalists Lilli Paasikivi (mezzo) and Tommy Hakala (baritone), plus the majesty of the YL Male Voice Choir of Finland. When the Minnesota Orchestra performed this piece at Carnegie Hall in 2010, Alex Ross of The New Yorker said they sounded “like the greatest orchestra in the world.”
Future Classics: Emerging Composers Spotlight: This event features six up-and-coming composers and their newest creations. Hosted by Fred Child, and featuring Kirsten Broberg, Matthew Browne, Joshua Cerdenia, Emily Cooley, Nick DiBerardino, Michael Gilbertson, and Anthony Vine.
Returning from its historic tour to Cuba in May of 2015 and Carnegie Hall last March, the Grammy Award–winning Minnesota Orchestra celebrates its second century as one of America’s premier symphonic ensembles, gathering accolades from publications such as the New York Times.
